Renewable energy on Aboriginal land - Seminar by Dr Janet Hunt

Seminar run by Indigenous Land and Justice Reserch Hub, Wednesday 8th May 2019 6.00 pm - 7.30pm
The Aboriginal land estate is increasing in NSW and with its expansion comes greater potential for new economies of land including the generation of renewable energy. Alternative energy transitions have a transformative potential for Indigenous communities and government alike. The benefits are not limited to considerations of climate change and environmental sustainability and rather include considerations of self-determination, energy sovereignty, relationships to land and consumption and social behaviours.
While there has been some development in other jurisdictions (Canada and New Zealand), the paucity of response to dealing with climate change in Australia and limited economic development on the Aboriginal land estate has meant that Aboriginal engagement is limited to a few examples.
Speakers:
• Dr Janet Hunt (ANU)
• Professor Devleena Ghosh (UTS)
• Deerubbin Aboriginal Land Council
