Qualification:

Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science with Anthropology Honours from the Australian National University. Kate’s honours thesis was titled ‘Indigenous education through numbers: A discourse analysis of NAPLAN'.

Kate is in the first year of her PhD studies at CAEPR. Her research investigates the social construction of Indigenous Ranger Programs from different viewpoints. In particular, Kate is interested in how concerns for Indigenous ‘development’ come together in these programs. Kate will undertake ethnographic fieldwork to explore how Indigenous people enact programs in line with their local priorities and aspirations.

Following her undergraduate studies, Kate spent three years working with the Carpentaria Land Council Aboriginal Corporation’s Land and Sea Management Unit. More recently, Kate worked as a Research Assistant at the National Centre for Indigenous Studies, ANU, where she contributed to projects exploring deficit discourse and strengths-based approaches in Indigenous health and education.
